Security Clearances 101
What the Clearance Levels Mean
Sigmatech sponsors clearance investigations for qualified candidates. If a role requires a clearance you don't yet hold but you meet the technical and citizenship requirements, we encourage you to apply.
PUBLIC TRUST
Lowest tier. Required for non-classified federal positions involving sensitive information. Background investigation only, no formal clearance.
SECRET
Access to information that could cause serious damage to national security if disclosed. Requires a Tier 3 background investigation. Most common clearance for DoD contractor work.
TOP SECRET (TS)
Access to information that could cause exceptionally grave damage to national security. Requires a Tier 5 single-scope background investigation (SSBI).
TS / SCI
Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmented Information access. Required for intelligence-community work. SSBI plus polygraph for some programs.
TS / SCI w/ POLY
TS/SCI with a counterintelligence (CI) or full-scope (FS) polygraph. Required for the most sensitive intelligence programs.
ACTIVE vs CURRENT
Active: in use through your current employer. Current: investigation completed within reinvestigation cycle but not actively in use. Both can typically be transferred to a new employer.
